Belle James

You might call her a cradle artist, as her parents met at Otis Art Institue. Belle received an AA and BA in art with graduate work at CSULA and Waseda U in Tokyo. She received a Special Credential from California to teach art in grades K thru 14, and taught in the Los Angeles and San Mateo school districts She later had a gallery in Carmel called Belle Arts for several years, then opened a gift shop for another ten years. Belle was fortunate to travel around the globe and did many sketches along the way. These books are often sources of inspiration. “But, as Plein Aire artists go outside, she wanders her home and looks out the windows for ideas, seeing patterns and color and abstracting their essence”. The artists she admires are Turner, VanGogh, Monet, Jasper Johns and Keith Lindberg. “I think you will see their influences on my canvasses”. ...
